Prices reported to IFA

Comment: No change in quotes once again this week, with €1.40c/kg being the most common price achieved. Disappointment among all pig farmers, as Ireland slips to 95% of the European average pig price. Industry sources still report improvements across all markets, but this is of little comfort to pig producers who have sold pigs at 10c/kg below the cost of production for over 10 weeks now. IFA national pigs chair Tom Hogan called on the main export plants to increase prices with immediate effect. Last week’s pig kill was 69,945.
