Prices reported to IFA

Comment: The Irish pig price remains stable at €1.56 to €1.58/kg this week in all main pig factories. There are higher prices reported for some spot loads, especially for lighter pigs, and there are many pig suppliers that have done deals to supply pigs to their processor at higher prices on a longer-term deal. IFA pigs chair Tom Hogan called on all stakeholders in the industry and the Irish Government to be cognisant of the delicate financial position of Irish pig producers. The importance of beef farming and beef exports is well documented, but Irish pig farming is an important and productive sector which cannot be jeopardised in any impending trade deal with South American countries under the current Mercosur-EU negotiations.
