The planting deadline for catch crops has been further extended as a consequence of the very poor harvest and lack of planting opportunities.

Planting deadline extended for catch crops

Farmers are advised to plant catch crop species that can grow better and faster when sowing in October.

The deadline for the establishment of catch crops for GLAS 2017 has been further extended to 28 October. However, catch crops availing of this October extension must be left in situ until 31 January 2018.

Participants are also advised to choose seed mixes suitable for later sowing, ie species that can establish and grow faster from October onwards, such as oats and mustard.
