Abbey Machinery, the family-owned agricultural machinery manufacturer, saw pre-tax profits more than double to €851,637 for its 2015 financial year. Retained profit for the year amounted to €806,931, which increased shareholder funds in the business close to €13.7m. No turnover is reported by the group.

The principal shareholders in Abbey Machinery are the Cavanagh family, who founded the business in 1947. Today, the business is run by managing director Clodagh Cavanagh.

Manufacturing base

Abbey recently moved its manufacturing base to a purpose-built facility set on a 30ac site at Toomevara, Co Tipperary, following a €10m investment. The company manufactures slurry and muck spreaders, agitators, fertiliser spreaders, grass toppers and tub diet feeders for sale in the Irish and international markets. The group employs around 90 people.

Over 60% of Abbey’s sales come from exports to markets such as the UK, France, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
