The land auction season has got underway with strong demand and equally strong prices paid for choice parcels of land. GVM had a hectic run of sales.

They sold a farm at Ballybricken, Grange, Co Limerick in lots. Lot 1 was 9.8ac and it made €160,000 or almost €16,000/ac, selling to a local couple. Lot 2 was 5.9ac and it sold for €185,000 or over €31,000/ac to a local buyer. Lot 3 was a cottage on 0.5ac and it sold for €220,000, again to a local.

GVM auctioned a 28ac farm at Enaghroe, Fedamore, Co Limerick. It was laid out in two divisions, was close to the centre of the village and had good access but the land was mixed. It fetched €345,000 or €12,321/ac.

The firm sold the 136ac residential farm at Barnlough, Bansha, Co Tipperary. The farm is 10km from Cahir and 12km from Tipperary. It sits on the N24 main road and has road frontage. It opened strongly at €1m, went on the market at €1.7m and was knocked down at €2.1m. It was bought in trust by a solicitor with no details revealed about the buyer.

Local dairy farmer

The same auctioneers sold a 5.3c parcel at Rahyvira, Cappawhite, Co Tipperary at auction for €84,000. The buyer was a local dairy farmer.

REA Thomas Potterton sold a 32ac holding at Neilstown, Kildalkey, Co Meath. It was knocked down for €400,000.

Sherry Fitzgerald O’Leary Kinsella had a spectacular auction of a fine 92.4ac farm in Co Wexford, fetching over €30,000/ac.

The holding is at Moneytucker, Enniscorthy. The signs were good from the outset with an opening bid that was over €21,000/ac.

Coonan Property got €1.73m for the owner of the 102ac farm at Dreenane, Carbury, Co. Kildare.

The farm had no house or yard. The property was declared on the market at just over €2.5m and after further bidding, the hammer fell at the €2.83m or €30,627/ac.

The successful bidder was auctioneer David Hanlon. He was acting for two local farmers, one of whom has agribusiness interests.

Coonan Property sold a 102ac residential farm at Carbury, Co Kildare. The holding at Dreenane has a six bedroomed house and a farmyard. Bidding opened at €900,000 and rose in €50,000 increments.

The farm went on the market at €1.65m and two bidders competed until the hammer fell at €1.73m.

The buyer is a local business man with substantial farming interests.
