A holding of 1,688ac of blanket bog and rough grazing has been placed on the market in north Co Mayo. The land lies in two large blocks in the Crossmolina area.

It is on offer from REA TE Potterton by tender and the guide price for the land is €600/ac to €1,000/ac.

One of the blocks, at Srahmeen, Garranard, Ballina is 1,280ac in area while the other, at Formoyle, Crossmolina is 408ac. The land will be of interest to local farmers for sheep and cattle grazing.

Some of the land will also be of interest to forestry planting companies. But it may also attract interest from the Office of Public Works which was involved in the purchase of two large land banks in the past year to add to the state’s portfolio of national parks. These were in counties Kerry and Meath.

One of the country’s existing parks is the Wild Nephin Park which covers a total area of 45,000ac in Co Mayo, across diverse locations.

According to the selling agent, the land for sale now has many potential uses including generation of electricity, forestry, carbon farming and leisure pursuits.
