A large block of land at Banktown, Baltray, Co Louth met great demand when it was offered at auction in lots recently by Raymond Potterton Auctioneers. The 170ac farm had road frontage and a derelict house.

Lots 1 and 2 combined, totalling 118ac, and sold for €2.7m or €22,669/ac. Lot 4 was 50ac and it sold for €1.15m or €23,000/ac. The house was offered on 2.1ac but was not sold on the day.

The same auctioneers also sold a 22.8ac holding at Loughpark, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath at auction for €360,000. The price equals €15,748/ac.

A 34ac holding near Straffan, Co Kildare has sold at auction for €710,000 or just under €21,000/ac. The land at Turnings was sold by Jordan Auctioneers. The bidding opened at €500,000 and three parties competed until the hammer fell.

The holding, located 3.5km from Straffan village and close to the N7, included over 30ac of grassland and 3ac of mature, non-commercial forestry. The buyer is a business man.

A 46.2ac farm in Co Tipperary has sold for €926,000. The farm at Belleen, Nenagh was sold by REA Eoin Dillon in an online auction. The property included a derelict house.

Nine individuals registered in advance to take part in the auction and seven of them participated on the day. Five were described as “strong” local dairy farmers. Bidding opened at €500,000 and rose in bids of €10,000 to €600,000 and then in bids of €5,000 to €700,000. At this point the property was declared on the market. Two bidders then competed with bids of €2,500 until it reached to €800,000, at which point two new bidders got involved.

The bidding then rose in bids of €1,000 with the hammer eventually falling at €926,000. The buyer was a young local dairy farmer.

By the end of the auction, a total of 197 bids had been made.
