An 87.6ac residential farm located near Listowel, Co Kerry has sold at auction in one lot for €1.66m. The farm at Ballygrennan was brought to auction by Dillon Prendeville Auctioneers with a guide price €1.125m.
The bidding opened at €1.1m and five bidders then competed to buy the farm. The bidding initially rose in increments of €25,000 up to €1.6m and then went to €1.62m.
It thereafter rose in increments of €10,000 until it was knocked down, at €1.66m, to a local firm of solicitors Purtill Woulfe Murphy, who were acting for a client.
PF Quirke & Co Clonmel auctioned three blocks of land last week. The first lot was 14.8ac with an old stone house at Ballyluskey, Drangan. This opened at €200,000.
There was no other bidder and the property was withdrawn. After negotiations, the holding was sold to the bidder for a price which the auctioneers described as “substantially higher”.
The next lot was 6.1ac at Cloughtaney, Drangan. This met good interest and a number of bidders competed to buy the land. The hammer finally dropped at €120,000 or approximately €19,700/ac.
The third and largest block was 36.1ac at Newtowndrangan. The bidding for this lot opened at €500,000. Multiple bids brought the bidding to €700,000 at which point it was placed on the market and then sold.
