Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for counties Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford. The alert is valid from 9am to 9pm this Thursday.

Forecasters say that rain will be persistent and heavy at times, especially during the afternoon, with a risk of spot flooding.

Totals of 25mm to 40mm are expected, with highest values likely in coastal areas.

While rain is forecast to spread northwards after a dry morning, rainfall levels will be lighter in northern areas.
