Big holdings over 100 acres don’t come to the market in Dublin that often. Only four farms over 100 acres were offered in the county in 2017 and one would imagine that this year will be something similar.

However, as infrequent as parcels this size are, packages over 200 acres in the capital are rarer again. Only one came to the market here last year and the first of its kind has recently come to the market in 2018.

Located on the Meath-Dublin border, 204 acres in Moorepark Farm, Garristown, is of excellent quality. Scenic and idyllic, the lands are surrounded by wonderful views of the unspoilt, rolling countryside.

Offered in three lots, as well as the entire, it is described as an arable farm with productive grassland. It is guided in the entire for €10,000/ac or just over €2m.

The lots

The first lot is the biggest of the three individual lots. Extending 107 acres, most of it is laid out in permanent pasture. In total, 30 acres in laid out in corn. This lot has extensive road frontage and a farm buildings. This is a four-bay shed with a lean-to and a concrete yard.

The second lot is slightly smaller but still contains significant acreage. Totalling 85 acres, it is all currently in grass. The third lot is the smallest. Circa 11 acres, it could exceed the €10,000/ac guide that is placed on the other two lots. Auctioneer handling the sale, Thomas Potterton of T.E Potterton, believes it could reach close to €15,000/ac.

Interest so far has been high from a number of parties, including businesspeople and farmers. The holding was previously owned by businesspeople from Dublin. They actively farmed the holding in tillage and drystock. It is being offered by public auction on Wednesday 27 June in Trim.

67 acres in a single lot in Kells

A plethora of properties are coming onto the market in the Kells area since the sun started shining. As well as the 204 acres in Dublin (see above), Potterton also has an offering of 67 acres around here.

Located in Martinstown, near Crossakiel, this 67 acres is offered in one single lot. A top-quality holding, it is mainly laid out in winter wheat with circa 10 acres laid out in grass.

The parcel is in one large division and contains significant road frontage. It is guided for circa €8,000/ac or €536,000. Again, it is offered by public auction on 27 June, the same day as the 204 acres in Dublin. Both are held in Potterton’s office in Trim.
