On Friday 25 October a reduction sale of 10 pedigree Belgian Blue cattle from the Rathlyon herd of Myles McDermott will be held at GVM Tullamore in conjunction with the Irish Belgian Blue Cattle Society premier autumn sale.

The reduction group comprises eight females and two males, many which have won top accolades over the previous few years.

With the exception of Rathlyon Niamh, this year’s all-Ireland junior female calf champion, all females on offer are confirmed in calf.

Rathlyon Jasmine, a massive four-year-old daughter of Rathlyon Gina and Argan de L’Ecluse, won at several shows including all-Ireland calf and breeding heifer championships.

Rathlyon Lara is a powerful and correct two-year-old daughter of Rathlyon Hilary and Boherard Cantona. Like her mother she took numerous titles, including reserve all-Ireland female calf champion.

Rathlyon Lucille is also a two-year-old, this time the cross of Gitan du P’Tit Mayeur daughter and Bringlee Bronwyn. Bronwyn is a Colibri de Widwance daughter of the famous UK show cow Bringlee Sandy. Lucille won several shows as a calf.

Rathlyon Niamh, the youngest and only white heifer on show, was champion at Tullow and all-Ireland junior female calf champion at Tinahely this year. She is out of Grangeford Jasmine and a granddaughter of one of the herd’s foundation cows, Rathlyon U-Beauty.

The four remaining unshown females include: Rathlyon Kathleen, a classy three-year-old daughter of Bronwyn by Empire d’Ochain; Rathlyon Laura, a really powerful black daughter of Rathlyon Fibi by Phenomene du Martinpre; Rathlyon Linda, a stylish young dappled heifer out of Rathlyon Jasmine by Lennie Van Het Calaenhof; and finally Rathlyon Lucky, a black heifer out of Rathlyon Indigo by Rathlyon Jango.

The reduction also includes the sale of two males – the black and white three-year-old Rathlyon Kazar and the two-year-old black and white son of Bringlee Bronwyn by Gitan.

All the animals are export tested and vaccinated against Leptospirosis, BVD and IBR, with the bulls also fertility tested.
