Supermarkets have not yet implemented the compulsory re-labelling of free-range eggs as a result of bird flu precautions.

The cold snap has reduced the prospect of an early lifting of compulsory flock housing. Several consecutive days of warm weather are required to ensure the virus could not survive in the environment.

All farmed birds must remain indoors until 30 April Retail free-range eggs laid in the intervening time must be re-labelled as barn eggs.
