The Irish Farmers Journal understands that two of the country’s largest retailers are expected to remove Kerrygold butter from shelves in a row over price.

The two retailers are understood to be Tesco and Dunnes Stores.

In recent weeks, price increases for Kerrygold had been sought from retailers in response to rocketing butter prices on the global market.

A spokesperson for Tesco said it currently “stocks a number of products under the Kerrygold brand” but refused to comment further.

Dunnes Stores could not be contacted.

Ornua, the owner of the Kerrygold brand, also refused to comment on “commercial” activities.
