DEAR SIR

I’m reaching out to farmers who are feeling under pressure from the stress and strain of everyday life. They may feel it’s affecting other areas of their lives. They may feel like there’s nowhere to turn to for help, that they should just keep going. As part of a new documentary series for RTÉ, I want to not only help a farmer dealing with stress but also help others by showing them the tools they can use to cope.

Farmers are often under pressure – juggling financial and farm commitments while trying to maintain a family and social life. In a labour-intensive industry where a lot of time can be spent in isolation, physical and mental stresses can take their toll. Switching off or seeking assistance is sometimes not an option. Trying to find a balance is a regular challenge.

Under Pressure is a new two-part television series that examines the science of stress and explores how much pressure we are feeling in our daily lives.

It will also look at what can be done to help reduce stress. If any farmers out there are interested in getting some help to deal with stress and want to know more about participating in the series, please email seamus@firebrand.ie.
