The relentless growth in global sales of Irish whiskey shows no signs of slowing. Irish Distillers, producer of some of the best known Irish whiskey brands such as Jameson, Powers and Midleton, said 2019 was a record year for Irish whiskey.

Sales of Jameson Irish whiskey surpassed 8m cases in 2019, which is an all-time record. In December alone, Irish Distillers sold 940,000 cases of Jameson Irish whiskey, which is the single largest month of sales in the history of the brand.

The USA remains the core export market for Irish whiskey. In the last six months of 2019, Jameson sales in the US exceeded 2m cases – another first for the brand. Irish Distillers said the Jameson brand also saw strong growth in markets such as Nigeria, China and India.

“In 1996, we sold 1m cases of Jameson for the first time, in 2010, we cracked 3m and today we are celebrating the 8m case mark,” said Conor McQuaid, CEO of Irish Distillers.

Owned by French group Pernod Ricard, Irish Distillers produces its range of Irish whiskies from its well-known Midleton distillery in Co Cork.
