The Scottish Government plans to bring in its own agricultural bill and will not take powers from Westminster.

Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy, Fergus Ewing, said the Scottish bill would implement stability and simplicity proposals for rural financial support up to 2024.

The precise timetable for the bill will be determined once the Parliament’s legislative programme is confirmed.

NFU Scotland director of policy, Jonnie Hall, said the announcement ends uncertainty and must act as a “launchpad for Scottish ministers to develop and deliver a new, fully funded Scottish agricultural policy.”
