All seasonal rainfall totals recorded across the country for March, April and May were below long-term average values, according to figures released by Met Éireann.

The lowest recorded rainfall was in Dublin, at 120.7mm, which was 72% of its long-term average; while the highest was Newport in Co Mayo, at 311.5mm, equating to 93% of its long-term average.

All mean air temperatures across the country were also above average over the three-month period. Mean temperatures ranged from 9.1°C and 1.4°C above the long-term average at Knock Airport, to 10.8°C and 1.5°C above the long-term average at Dublin Airport.

The lowest air temperature was -3.3°C recorded at Markree, Co Cork, on 25 March and the highest was 26.1°C at Finner, Co Donegal, on 26 May. Malin Head in Co Donegal recorded its highest spring air temperature since the station opened in 1885, of 25.1°C on 25 May.

Malin Head also recorded the highest seasonal sunshine total of 491.6 hours, with Knock Airport recording the lowest at 369.9 hours.

During the month of May, the majority of stations were below the long-term rainfall average, with Sherkin Island in Co Cork recording the lowest total in 13 years at 39.2mm, which is 53% of its long-term average.

Air temperatures in May were above the long-term average across all stations, with Newport, Co Mayo, recording the highest mean air temperature above its average, at 2°C above average (13.5°C air temperature).
