A tractor driver was killed last Friday in an accident involving a Honda 4X4 on the Moneymore to Cookstown dual carriageway.

Victor Wylie, who was in his 60s, died when his vintage tractor collided with the vehicle at approximately 9.30am. The driver of the 4X4 was taken to hospital but his injuries were not life threatening.

This is the second person to die within four weeks in an accident involving a vintage tractor. Last month, John Hanna died when his tractor overturned near Ballintoy, Co Antrim.

Local SDLP councillor Tony Quinn extended his sympathy to Victor Wylie’s family and described him as “a good, decent, highly thought of man in the town and surrounding district”.

The vintage tractor enthusiast was on his way to Mid-Ulster Vintage Vehicle Club’s tractor and car trek from Moneymore to Ballyclare when the accident occurred. Victor Wylie’s brother was travelling in front of him, also in a tractor, on his way to the same event.

The retired business man was a long-term member of the vintage club.

Last weekend’s fundraiser for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice was cancelled.
