Not every contractor can buy a new piece of equipment when it comes to silage making. For this reason, we spoke to a number of dealers and distributors to see what secondhand loaders and harvesters they had for sale that are still more than capable of being part of a modern silage-contracting business for a lot less than the price of a new machine.

2015 Volvo L90H (avove)

This loader is very clean with low hours for its age. The machine is fitted with industrial tyres but Volvo has said these can be easily changed to agricultural tyres. The machine comes with air-con, boom suspension, quick attachment, third line hydraulic service and extra work lights. Asking price is €140,000 plus VAT.

2015 JCB 418s Ag Loading Shovel This loader is fitted with Michelin 620 tyres with 50% grip remaining making it ideal for climbing steep silage pits. Auto Lube is also fitted on this machine meaning less time with the grease-gun. A very useful feature fitted is SRS, which reduces loader bounce on the road. Air-con and air-seat are also included to make driving more comfortable. The loader has XXXX hours and is on the market for €94,000 + VAT
