There are several thousand homes, farms and businesses across the country without power this morning as a result of high winds last night, ESB Networks has confirmed. This includes larger outages in Wicklow, Carlow and Kilkenny.

“This is not unusual for this time of year, and crews are mobilised and will work through the morning on restoring power to impacted customers,” a spokesperson for ESB said. It is expected that power will be restored to most places by early afternoon. More information can be found on powercheck.ie.

The status yellow wind warning for Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan is scheduled to be lifted at 9am this morning, after gusts of up to 100km/hr were recorded overnight.

Flooding has been reported on roads in Kerry, with fallen trees in Wexford, Wicklow and Offaly.

According to Met Eireann’s latest forecast, rain will clear by around mid-morning and the southerly winds will ease as brighter conditions further west extend across the country.

There will be scattered showers with clear spells tonight. The showers will become heavy and frequent later in the west but there will be a lot of dry weather elsewhere. South to southwest winds will be moderate to fresh in the east but fresh or strong in western parts and very blustery near the coast. Lowest temperatures will fall to between 3°C and 5°C, with some ground frost locally in the east.
