There has been plenty of moving and shaking in the tillage sector of late, with people stepping into new roles for the season ahead.

Gordon Rennick is moving from the pesticide registration and control divisions (PRCD) of the Department of Agriculture to head up the remodelling of the EU’s Sustainable Use Directive. Gordon’s practical approach to the registration and licencing process will no doubt be missed by the Department, but this will also be a help in the challenging job that lies ahead of him.

We also hear that Tom Medlicott is stepping back from his role in that division, thus leaving two important positions to be filled in the months ahead.

To that end, Eddie Young will leave his role as agronomist at Wynne’s to take up the post of regional technical sales manager at CropLink

Pat Murphy is retiring from Independent Merchants, the holders of the Acorn brand, after 11 years of service. Prior to that, Pat had worked for many years with Greencore Malt. Barry Larkin will now take up that role at Acorn Independent Merchants. The Offaly man had previously worked with CropLink.

To that end, Eddie Young will leave his role as agronomist at Wynne’s to take up the post of regional technical sales manager at CropLink in late January. Scott Lovell was appointed group crop protection manager at Goldcrop (the owner of CropLink) last autumn. Scott has previously worked with Barryroe Co-op and Dairygold.

Ger Hanley has moved from Howard Farms to Dairygold

In another move, the former grain secretary of the IFA, Fintan Conway, takes up the post as head of the Federation of Agrochemical Retail Merchants (FARM). He replaces Paul O’Doherty, who has recently retired.

Agronomists are also on the move. Ger Hanley has moved from Howard Farms to Dairygold. He takes up a role based from New Inn, Co Tipperary. Niall Laffan, who was previously in this role, has moved to technical sales with Germinal Ireland.

Eoin McDonald is also on the move. He leaves his role at Boortmalt to join Cooladine Farms in Co Wexford.

Changing jobs, but not company, Denis Dunne was recently appointed trials manager at Seedtech.
