Some producers have opted to hold on to wool with the hope of higher prices next season.

Merchants are reminding producers that the manner in which wool is stored can have a big effect on quality and potential sale value next year.

Wool should be packed clean and stored in dry conditions.

It is advisable not to store wool directly on the ground where there is a risk of dampness seeping into packs.

In such cases, storing packs on pallets, for example, will help to keep packs dry.

Likewise, it is important in weather like we are currently experiencing to guard against high levels of condensation from roof sheeting wetting packs.
