The Irish Simmental cattle society has cancelled its premier sale, which was set for this weekend.

This decision, taken following a council conference call, was made due to the coronavirus pandemic. The society has the interest of the health of their exhibitors and customers in mind, it said.

The move comes after a number of marts had already called off many general sales, and other societies such as the Hereford and Limousin calling off society sales in the coming weeks.

Strict measures

The Charolais and Limousin societies decided to go ahead with their premier sales last weekend with strict precautionary measures put in place, including limiting the amount of spectators around the ring.

Other major pedigree events cancelled or postponed in recent days include the Royal Highland and Balmoral.
