Spanish victory for Bertram

Wexford’s Bertram Allen (20) continued his winning run of results with victory at the Spanish three-star show in Vejer De La Frontera on Sunday, fresh from his double of wins and top five placings in the Hong Kong Masters show. Allen guided the 13-year-old mare Wild Thing L to the fastest clear round in the speed contest, to take home the winner’s prize of €6,000. Allen also finished sixth in the Grand Prix with Izzy By Picobello – a single time fault costing them a place in the jump-off.

Meanwhile at Vilamoura in Portugal, Antrim’s Harry Marshall was seventh in the Grand Prix with Bordeaux.

Top five for Tom

In endurance riding, Horseware’s Tom MacGuinness scored two top-five placings last weekend at an international competition at Trinidad in Uruguay. The results bode well for the season for the Dundalk businessman.

Meanwhile, Tipperary’s Padraig McCarthy finished fourth in the two-star eventing competition at Barroca d’Alva, Portugal, with Mr Chunky.
