Met Éireann has issued a status yellow weather alert and announced a risk of spot flooding for counties Clare, Cork and Kerry.

Rain accumulations of between 20mm and 40mm are expected overnight on Tuesday 4 August, especially in more mountainous areas.

Soils in many parts of the country are already saturated, meaning that spot flooding could occur.

Met Éireann has said that parts of the country have received up to three times the normal amount of rainfall in comparison to the same period last year and expect almost all areas to be dealing with excess surface water by the end of the week.
