Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for Munster and Galway, which will be in effect for 12 hours, from 4pm on Wednesday 10 January to 4am on Thursday 11 January.

Heavy, thundery showers are expected, with the weather forecaster stating: “Surface water and spot flooding likely, with between 25mm to 40mm possible.”

The wet weather follows on from last week when Storm Eleanor wreaked havoc in parts the country. It is bad news for many farmers hoping for a window of dry weather before the slurry spreading season starts.
