Met Éireann has forecast falls of snow from Monday 5 February for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary and Waterford.

The status yellow weather warning is in place from 6pm on Monday 5 February, until Tuesday 6 February at 6pm.

Temperatures are expected to reach as low as -4°C on Monday night, with widespread snowfall across the midlands and north of the country.

The national forecaster has warned that accumulations of snow could total 3cm in some areas, leading to potentially treacherous road conditions on Tuesday morning.
