Last Friday’s sale at Rathfriland Mart saw a strong seasonal entry of over 138 weanling. The trade saw strong farmer demand for all good-quality types. At the top end of the trade, weanlings sold from £2.33/kg to £2.55/kg. Average-quality weanlings sold mainly from £1.90/kg to £2.20/kg, while plain types sold from £1.56/kg upwards.

The bullock trade was strong and firm, with plenty of farmers buying for grass. Prices ranged mainly from £250 over the weight for light plain-quality types, while average-quality steers sold from £320 to £400 over the weight, with top-quality types making up to £460 along with the weight.

Friesian bullocks sold from £125 over the weight to £300 along with the weight. The heifer trade was brisk also and prices ranged from £220 over the weight to £400 over the weight.

Dropped calves made from £200 to £375.
