Brothers Andrew and Eamonn Kehoe last week held a machinery auction in conjunction with Carnew Mart. All lots were assembled near Rathnure in Co Wexford, while the auction took place online on the Livestock Live (LSL) platform.

Andrew explained that the auction saw 287 bidders register from 24 counties, all of whom payed deposits.

The auction consisted of 240 entries, all of which were from local farmers. Kicking off at 7pm, an 80% clearance rate was achieved with lots finding homes in 17 counties throughout the country. Commission was charged at a rate of 10% for items sold up to €1,000 and 5% for items sold above €1,000.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, Andrew explained: “There hasn’t been a machinery auction in Wexford now in two years. Some locals, and us included, were travelling an hour and a half collecting and dropping off lots to other auctions. We consulted with some local farmers and there was a great desire for a machinery auction in the area. With six weeks planning, we accepted 240 lots and had to stop there, but there was the potential for loads more. Due to the current times, all lots were videoed and if lots were stated as working, they had to prove that to us. The auction was a success and we will be holding another in the coming months”.
