The HPRA advised in December 2019 that batches of Synulox tubes, used for the treatment of mastitis in lactating cows, should be quarantined in wholesale stores.

This followed an investigation of the manufacturing process in another EU country where issues around the assurance of an active substance arose.

The removal of Synulox from the market has at times led to a scarcity of alternative antibiotic-based mastitis treatments in veterinary practices.

A new statement released by the HPRA acknowledges this fact and states that in the interests of animal welfare it is now permitting the interim supply of limited quantities of Synulox LC tubes.
