Teagasc is hosting Virtual Pig Week from Tuesday 20 until Friday 23 October, with research and technical advice for pig producers broadcast live from Moorepark at 1.30pm each day.

The event, organised by the Teagasc pig development department, will feature an interactive online forum focusing on a range of topics in pig production from key husbandry practices, to a progressive pig farm and virtual tour of the Teagasc Moorepark pig research facility.

Head of Teagasc pig development department Edgar Manzanilla said: “A variety of contributors will share their expertise and experience including Teagasc farm staff and researchers along with pig producers and international experts.”

Week schedule

Each day will feature a discussion panel, which will host question and answer sessions live during the event.

Programme for the week:

  • Tuesday - virtual tour of the Moorepark pig research facility.
  • Wednesday - key husbandry practices in pig production.
  • Thursday - biosecurity and energy use.
  • Friday - the role of feed ingredients in disease transmission.
