Sales of new telehandlers have got off to a remarkable start in 2019, following strong numbers of new sales over the past few years. In 2018, 374 new telehandler units were registered.

According to Gary Ryan of the FTMTA: “A total of 161 new telehandlers have been registered during the first two months of 2019, which is an 83% increase on the same time last year. The fact that 72 of these units were registered in Dublin and surrounding counties is undoubtedly an indication that many were destined for use in the resurgent construction sector in the greater Dublin area.”

Nonetheless, the popularity of telehandlers on Irish farms is continuing to grow. Sales of new wheeled loaders have also had a strong start to the new year.

FTMTA figures show that 20 new units have been registered to the end of February, an increase of six units on 2018. However, it is worth noting that the main registration for such machines is typically later in the year to coincide with the start of the pit silage harvesting season.

Backhoe loaders have also seen an increasing level of registrations, with 23 units registered during January and February, up from 18 units in 2018.

Last year, a total of 70 such machines were registered during the full year.
