I note with interest that discussions are taking place for Tesco’s own-label liquid milk. There was something of a furore last year when the contract, which Glanbia had exclusivity on the previous year, was split three ways between Arrabawn, Aurivo and Glanbia. This contract does not affect Glanbia’s contract to supply Avonmore to Tesco. Glanbia currently holds approximately 20-25% of this particular contract, with Aurivo holding 40-45% and Arrabawn having about 33%.

Rumours in the industry suggest Glanbia is making a big play to regain a large chunk of what it lost last year.

According to Tesco, it purchases up to 70m litres of Irish milk every year, which is made up of branded and own label milk.
