For three decades they have been bringing their unique sense of rural Waterford humour to audiences across the southeast and further afield.

The harmless banter and good-natured humour of Tony Coffey, Seán Murphy, Willie Walsh and colleagues has captured a niche in the market that has a special outreach to rural people. It is no wonder that they enjoy such popularity year on year at the National Ploughing Championships, where they are swamped by admirers.

The loveable rogues are at it again and they will host a launch night for their latest DVD, Cold Shower and Hot Summons, in Crotty’s of Leamybrien on next Saturday night, 9 December. The chair of Waterford GAA Board, Paddy Joe Ryan, will preside at the launch.

The new video, shot on location around Kilrossanty, Leamybrien and Kilmeaden, is centred around Tommy Power’s great invention, an outdoor shower contraption, as he believes that Tom Coffey (Tony) could do with a proper washing facility.

Tommy’s invention is powered by gravity from the local stream, but he forgets the need for planning permission and all falls foul of the law.

Sergeant Clancy steps into the breach and Tom avoids court with help of the doctor’s needle.

The lead roles are once again played by Tony Coffey, Seán Murphy and William Walsh, while the video also features Fr John Delaney, Liam Clancy, Michael Hearne, Dave Reynolds, Mary Keating, Mary Mulcahy, Michéal Bray, Róisín Coffey, John Halpin, Mike Barry and others.

The video includes musical contributions from Paddy O’Brien, Richie Kavanagh, Mike Scott Treacy, Pat Daly and Teddy Butler. Followers of The Bachelors in Trouble will enjoy this latest offering, which was recorded by Willie Hartley from Carrick-on-Suir.

“This is our 28th DVD and there are many of our loyal followers who have every one of them from the first in 1989. We want to thank the cast and everyone who helped us out along the way.

“Thanks to the people at Kilmeaden Railway Station who facilitated us with the part of the video that features a train scene. We even had John O’Shea from WLR make a brief appearance,” says Tony Coffey.

Mike Fitzgerald, Helen Scollard and Southern Pride will join the Bachelors in Trouble and cast members, along with some other local artists, for this big night in Leamybrien, which gets underway at 9.30pm.

The compere is John O’Shea from WLR, who hosts the country and Irish show on the Waterford station. The Bachelors in Trouble have raised considerable funds for the Irish Kidney Association over the years and the proceeds from the launch night are once again in support of this cause. CL
