Farmer Writes: the future is farming with a contract

In the foreground are 20 lambs, marked for selling under a written contract and in the background are 30 dairy-bred calves being reared under an unofficial ‘‘gentleman’s agreement’’ type of arrangement. Producing under contract may not always be as profitable as operating in the open market, but I like the certainty and guarantee of a sustainable income.
