September 2025 sees the team in the Irish Farmers Journal returning to the National Ploughing Championships once again. We have curated a jam-packed, three-day schedule for visitors to our stand, with attractions for all ages.
Tuesday
We will kick off on Tuesday morning with a live recording of our Farm Tech Talk – the livestock show – with editor Jack Kennedy leading the panel on what is on farmers’ minds at Ploughing, from schemes to the nitrates derogation, looking back at harvest, to the price of cattle. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions.
The first of our three health and wellbeing forums will take place from 11.30am. The initiative, which is supported by the Department of Agriculture, aims to highlight the challenges facing farming families and provide them with take-home solutions on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
To close our programme on Tuesday, we will welcome IFJ Junior’s 15 Rising Rural Stars – where three lucky winners will be walking away with the 2025 titles of IFJ Junior Rising Rural Star – the over-12 winner, under-12 winner and overall winner. See page 30 and 31 for more details.
Wednesday
Wednesday sees the return of some popular segments that are also running on Tuesday and Thursday, including our In the Tillage Fields with Siobhán Walsh and guests, Under the Bonnet with Gary Abbott and Peter Thomas Keaveny, and The Great Big Agri Quiz with the Irish Farmers Journal team.
Beef and suckler editor Adam Woods will chat to former Irish rugby player Bernard Jackman, who played for Connacht, Leinster and Sale Sharks, and now runs his family farm in Lumcloon on the Carlow/Wicklow border.
Wicklow natives, formerly known as The Willoughby Brothers, and now touring as the Celtic Brothers, will sing us out on Wednesday, so be sure to drop by to dance along with the team.
Thursday
For the final day of Ploughing 2025, our final panel on renewables in agriculture will be hosted by Stephen Robb (see pages 22 to 24).
We will continue the important conversation on succession on the family farm, with a focus on audience engagement, and there will be an opportunity to chat with the expert panel and discuss the recent succession series in the Irish Farmers Journal.

This year, we have also teamed up with Tipperary brothers, David and Michael Kennedy, who have created a fitness programme to help farmers while on the farm.
David and Michael will be on hand each day to do simple exercise tasks that can be completed during the busy working day, using tools found on the farm, such as buckets and cow mats.
During the day, we will be talking to David and Michael about how you can maintain a strong body and a strong mind while farming.
Our stand will also feature sheep from the Irish Farmers Journal suckler and sheep demonstration farm – Tullamore Farm, located only 3km from the Ploughing site.
Sheep and schemes editor Darren Carty will be on hand with the Tullamore Farm manager Shaun Diver to discuss an overview of the sheep production system, including the incorporation of Easycare sheep genetics and plans for breeding and finishing lambs. Performance figures and analysis will be available.
