Researcher and author Dr Joe Sempik is the keynote speaker at an upcoming therapeutic horticulture practitioners networking event. A one-day symposium will take place at Technology University Dublin’s (TUD) Blanchardstown campus on 6 September.

Social and therapeutic horticulture involves the use of natural settings and plants by experienced practitioners in order to meet clinically defined goals for groups or individuals.

“This use of horticulture for therapeutic benefit is an established yet niche but growing area of practice in Ireland, with the health benefits of community gardens and public open spaces gaining recognition,” lecturer in horticulture and symposium organiser Rachel Freeman said.

The event is open to anyone interested in learning more about the use of horticulture for human health benefit. Contact rachel.freeman@TUDublin.ie by 1 September for details or to book. Conference fee is €45 including lunch. CPD attendance certificate provided if required.
