Over 120 rams across 11 breeds are set to be sold at this year’s Big Boy ram sale in Carrick-on-Shannon. The sale is now in its third year and attracts exhibitors from right across Ireland. This year’s sale takes place this Friday 7 August at 6pm.

The aim of the sale is to offer a more commercially run type of ram with good breeding in the background. Organisers also see the sale as a one-stop shop for buyers who can select a number of rams from different breeds on the one day. Breeds on offer this year include Rouge de L’Quest, Texel, Blue Texel, Charollais, Suffolk, Dassenko, Chartex, Suftex, Aber, Dutch Spotted and Belclare.

Trade over the last few years has being strong, with stronger better-quality rams reaching as high as €1,200 at the 2019 sale.
