IMAGINE a world without potatoes, is Bord Bia’s latest request ahead of National Potato Day. The first ever Carlow Rooster Festival from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 October celebrates Ireland’s most loved vegetable and the world’s third-most important crop. This event has been designed to celebrate the Rooster potato and its proud links to Carlow over the last 40 years, where it was bred by Teagasc in Oak Park Research Centre. The festival begins on National Potato Day with Bord Bia potato ambassadors Aoife Hearne and Padraig Óg Gallagher delivering nutritional talks and cookery demonstrations to schools in Oak Park. Lots more local celebrations will continue over the weekend.
