The spring barley crop being followed by the Irish Farmers Journal had to brave the cold over the last few days.
The second leaf was emerging on all plants this week and the tramlines were fully visible.
The crop of RGT Planet has received its nitrogen (N) top dressing at this stage, bringing its total nitrogen application to 110 units N/ac (137kg N/ha).
The crop is pictured on 19 April, having received nitrogen over the weekend.
Some growers may split N applications, particularly those growing crops for feed. However, front-loading is advised with malting crops.
This crop was planted in March so an aphicide is not needed.
