A strong turnout of tillage farmers will be needed at Friday’s crisis tillage meeting, which will be attended by Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon, according to IFA grain committee chair Kieran McEvoy.

“Tillage farmers are facing an income crisis on their farms this year principally due to low grain prices and high costs of production. Government support is unquestionably needed for crop 2025 from Budget 2026 to ensure the sector survives this current crisis,” McEvoy told the Irish Farmers Journal.

“It is important we maximise this opportunity to highlight the deepening income pressures that the tillage sector is facing, if we want to send a strong message to the minister and the Government we need a strong turn out from tillage farmers and the wider tillage industry,” McEvoy said.
