Just over a month ago, a group of Tipperary secondary school students made a video on farm safety that has been praised far and wide. Already, the video has over 200,000 views on youtube.
This video will be used in schools across Ireland to highlight the dangers on farms. The simple message is stop and think before you do anything – the words of Nenagh CBS teacher and farmer Dermot Brislane commenting on the farm safety video, which was created by five transition year students from Nenagh CBS in north Tipperary.
Brislane said: “We formed a team of five teachers, five pupils and the families of the pupils to create this video to highlight the risks. The reaction since the video was launched has been phenomenal. We’ve had requests and good wishes from right across Ireland and Northern Ireland.”
The farm safety video is just one of a number of events at the school to highlight farm safety. Earlier in the year, a tractor run, among other events, highlighted farm safety and the risks on-farm.

This comes following a meeting between Minister of Agriculture McConalogue and his UK counterpart, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Steve Barclay.
From 1 August 2024, a 170kg N/ha stocking rate will be in place for Danish farmers. It has decided not to renew its nitrates derogation.
