The Department of Agriculture has revealed the top 10 items chosen by farmers in the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme II (TAMS), with mass concrete tanks proving to be the most popular item on the list.

Over 12,400 farmers have been approved for a TAMS II grant and over 2,500 participants have submitted a payment claim and received payment, amounting to a total of over €35.2m paid by the Department to date.

The top 10 items on the list were:

  • 1. Mass concrete tank – square or rectangular tank.
  • 2. Animal housing – roofed feed passage.
  • 3. Animal housing – slatted area.
  • 4. Milking machine – cluster units (new machine or extension.
  • 5. Milk storage and cooling – internal bulk tank volume (including auto washer and compressor).
  • 6. Sheep fencing – sheep mesh with one strand of wire.
  • 7. In-parlour meal feeding system – individual cow meal feeders.
  • 8. In-parlour meal feeding system – meal troughs.
  • 9. In-parlour meal feeding system – meal bin.
  • 10. Sheep fencing – gateway.
  • Some 9,000 farmers have received approval for a TAMS II project, but have not submitted payment claims to the Department.

    This may be due to financial constraints, but the Department is encouraging all farmers who have received approval and completed a project to submit payment claims.

    The closing date for the current tranche has been set as 23 February 2018.
