Two men were arrested and detained at Portlaoise Garda Station this week in connection with the theft of a tractor.

One man was arrested on Thursday, with a second man arrested on Friday, a Garda spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal.

Both men are from west Co Clare and more arrests are anticipated as part of the operation.

On 12 January, a Massey Ferguson 6480 and a red Broughan trailer with a rollover cover were stolen in Mountmellick from an area close to The Rock.

The tractor trailer had been spotted on CCTV in a number of locations following the theft, including Mountrath in Co Laois and Birdhill on the Limerick-Tipperary border.
