In support of the national effort to address and limit the spread of COVID-19 and safeguard the protection of public health and that of our stakeholders, Macra Agricultural Skillnet has postponed much of its training programme. The situation is being reviewed regularly, in line with Government advisories. Where possible, alternative methods of programme delivery are now being considered.

The following courses are currently available for booking:

  • Macra Agricultural Skillnet have partnered with the Irish Farmers Journal to bring you this free online programme, which is delivered in four modules and covers; Safe Livestock Handling and Management, Tractor Driving and Machinery Maintenance and First Aid and Manual Handling. When all four modules have been successfully completed, you will receive your Safe Agri Skills card. Register for the course on the eLearning page via the Irish Farmers Journal website at https://www.farmersjournal.ie/toolbox.

Feed legislation and HACCP for feed manufacturing

Macra Agricultural Skillnet is collaborating with the Irish Grain and Feed Association to deliver this certified online training programme. HACCP is a system that identifies, evaluates, and controls hazards, which are significant for feed safety and is a legal requirement for most European feed business operators.

The course is comprised of four modules. All four modules can be taken to achieve a certificate in “Feed Regulations and HACCP for Feed Manufacturing”. Alternatively, participants can complete Module one only and receive a certificate for the “Introduction to Feed Regulations”.

Module one is suitable for everybody working in the agri sector, as it explains the background and development of feed legislation. Modules two to four are suitable for personnel in a quality/manufacturing role. Participants will be required to complete an assessment in order to receive their certification.

The course costs €50. To book, visit https://www.macra.ie/skillnet.

Graduate development programme for agri-Food SMEs

Macra Agricultural Skillnet ensures that young farmers, and those in the wider agri industry, have access to subsidised opportunities for further education, training, and development. In support of this, we are particularly delighted to be partnering with the Food Industry Training Unit at University College Cork, in delivering the diploma in Management Practice and Leadership (Agriculture and Agri-Food). Graduate training is now a vital part of the continuing professional development of young employees. While most of the larger organisations offer their own in-house training programmes, this is not a feasible option for the vast majority of Ireland’s SME sector, due to cost constraints. In response to this, Macra Agricultural Skillnet and UCC have collaborated to offer an exceptional agri-focused programme, which will deliver core management and leadership skills to graduates in this sector.

The diploma will be delivered in a series of 10 two-day workshops, commencing in September 2020 and running until May 2021. The course will fit around the graduates’ full-time roles and will enable them to apply learned skills from the very first module.
