Dairy.com, a US dairy supply chain software business, has acquired Orbis MES, a Dún Laoghaire-based company that works in manufacturing execution systems (MES) for the food and beverage industry.

Orbis MES founder and chief executive John Tobin told the Irish Farmers Journal: “I’m delighted to integrate our technology with Dairy.com, who has access to roughly 60% of the US milk pool. After detailed negotiation, we decided it best to join forces and settled on a mixed cash equity deal.”

“Our clients include Glanbia, Dairygold, Arabawn, Baileys, and Guinness, to name but a few. Our company specialises in software which tracks the product from plant intake to the finished product. Our clients can expect even more services now we have joined with Dairy.com.”

Dairy.com expansion

In 2013, Dairy.com acquired Blimling, a dairy market analyst company and futures broker, which provides market insight and intelligence to dairy businesses.

The acquisition of Orbis MES broadens Dairy.com’s portfolio of software solutions, offering visibility, efficiency, and traceability across the company’s entire value chain.

Dairy.com CEO Scott Sexton described the Orbis MES product as: “exceptional software, allowing companies to prevent product loss, evaluate operating performance, improve quality, and trace product flows.”

Tobin will remain in charge at the company’s Dublin office, which will now become Dairy.com’s European headquarters. In addition, Tobin will join Dairy.com's Texas-based executive leadership team.

The acquisition was made for an undisclosed amount.
