Up to 170 new jobs will be created as part of MSD's new vaccine and biologics production facility in Carlow.

The company announced that they will be constructing a second facility, next to their existing site in the county.

It’s hoped that construction will be completed by 2023, with the new facility focusing on the production of vaccines and biologics.

Recruitment for the new roles is due to start immediately.

“We are delighted to be able to announce this further expansion of MSD’s footprint in Ireland which comes on the back of a number of significant investments in our facilities across Ireland in 2017 and the announcement earlier this year that a new facility would be built in Dublin,” Ger Brennan, managing director of MSD Human Health in Ireland said.

Over 50% of MSD’s top 20 products are now manufactured in Ireland. Earlier this year, the company also announced that they would be opening a facility in Swords, Co Dublin hoped to be completed by 2021 that will create 350 jobs.
