The upcoming elections in the USA are being factored into discussions about de-escalating the war with Iran and the attractions of a peace deal for president Trump. World oil and gas prices are a domestic issue in the USA as elsewhere and poll ratings for the Republicans have suffered. In just over two months on 3 November, there will be mid-term elections for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the seats in the Senate. The Democrats are expected to regain a majority in the House but may come up short in the Senate where the list of seats to be contested this time round includes only a few where the Republicans hold seats they might lose. They currently enjoy a majority in both houses.
