A new crop yield survey by tillage editor Siobhán Walsh reveals the full impact of the dry weather leading up to harvest 2026.

Yield per acre and overall crop area is back in 2026 compared to 2025. However, when grain moisture differences are equalised, the difference is not that much compared to the five-year average.

It’s also interesting to note that spring cereals grown on heavy land did much better than cereals sown on light land, despite the shorter growing season.
