Farmers continue to bask in the long hot days of summer with thousands of acres of second cut silage and hay saved around the country this week.
The high temperatures are starting to hit soil moisture deficits, especially in drier parts of the south and east.
This has meant that grass growth has tailed off with the result that supplementary feed has had to be introduced on some farms.
It’s not ideal and adds to feed costs and labour on farms. It is, however something that will become increasingly common in the years ahead.
Farmers need solid advice on how to deal with the current conditions – what to supplement, how much to supplement and when to do it.
